Every day, a little adventure is the current motto.
In that spirit we headed off for a couple of nights to the Stag’s Head at Boness on Windemere.
The train was convenient. Since were not working, our time is almost unlimited, so a 50 minute wait at Manchester Picadilly is a good thing. It gives you time to stock up on next-leg essentials ike porkpies, for example.
Our train direct to Windemere took two hours and was bang on time.
We’ve been a little lazy of late, and because you can’t go to the Lakes and not climb something, we climbed Orrest head.
This is spectacularly easy to do directly from Windemere station. The hardest part is crossing the road to the start. Its a total of 3km there and back and the 115m of ascent would make it too small for some of the serious walkers.
But they miss the point. It is a great view point, and even on a day of lowering clouds Windemere, the sea at Morecombe Bay, and the mountains around give it a ridiculously big bang for the energy and time it takes to climb.
There’s a Gruffalo too!
It might be the very easiest thing you could do when you get off the train… so go and do it.
