Lyme Park
Lyme Park is country estate operated by the National Trust, near Disley in Cheshire. It’s about a 30 minute train ride between Buxton and Manchester.
On a clear sunny day like today, when it feels like spring is just around the corner, and Summer could be soon after, it would be a crime not to visit.
Although nothing like as grand as Chatsworth, like the Duke of Devonshire´s pile down the road, it features an impressive hunting tower. I susupect that these were all the rage if you were a 16 Century plutocrat as were the Leghs of Lyme. It would be a lovely place for the ladies to watch you and the lads chasing over your estate after something for lunch. Or hunting the deer you’d bred for this purpose.
It’s easy to get to the park from Disley Station and here’s a link to the Relive of the trip.
There are three routes from the station in Disley to the park. The red route is the fastest, but today we decided on the more gentle blue route.
Once in the park, which is free, unless you’re driving or want to look round the house, aim for the Huntting Lodge and you can’t go far wrong.
Although I’ve only shown views of the Lodge looking north, I have it on good authority that you can see two countries and seven counties from the Lodge. Today it was a bit misty to see Wales.
