Ah... Blackpool
There's a famous seaside place called Blackpool,
And if it's fun you want, well you could do a lot worse. Go to Blackpool, have a bit of fun, have a nice time, have a jolly, a beano, have it, have it large.
But I wouldn't recomend walking along the shore from Fleetwood south to Blackpool and on to Poulton le Fylde.
Not in the same way I'd recommend walking from Shoeburyness to Leigh on Sea Via Southend in Essex.
It's about scale.
Although Southend sees hundreds of thousands of Londoners visit each year…
-- good trains from Fenchurch Street--
its quite small. The walk sits along the Thames estuary with views of Kent (No sir, thats not France) .
The Fylde coast is exactly that. It sits next to the Irish Sea. And that's the issue, you're walking along Sea defences, nice ones but defences nonetheless. It's a bit bigger, so things are a bit further away.
It wasn't helped by a long lag between our hotel at Manchester Airport, a 110 min train journey and a 30 min tram ride to the start.
I would start from Fleetwood, but I might walk to Lancaster along the Lune or along the Wyre if only to see where it comes from. But I probably wouldn't walk South again.
We flogged on for about 11k, then caught the tram and are now in Poulton le Fylde. Very genteel, very Frinton…
And if you're wondering why Manchester Airport, we were due to travel from there today, but couldn't cancel the hotel.
